Anna Galvin has three decades of experience acting in film, television, voice-over, theatre, and coaching in voice, drama, and public speaking. Anna was educated at the University of Melbourne, Australia (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce), and the Oxford School of Drama, Oxford, UK.
Anna starred in the award winning and internationally critically acclaimed one-woman show Lorilei, which toured London, Edinburgh, Melbourne and Sydney. She made her Canadian theatrical debut in the Playhouse’s production of Dangerous Corner. Her recent local theatre credits include: The Audience, Vanya Sonya Masha and Spike, Other Desert Cities, Calendar Girls, and The Philanderer for the Artsclub, Loves Labour’s Lost, and Comedy of Errors for Bard on the Beach Shakespearean Festival. Her recent film and television credits include; Warcraft, One Upon a Time, iZombie, Supernatural, Loudermilk, Legends of Tomorrow, Transparency, and Vice.
Anna has tutored several award winning students in the ISABC Independent School Public Speaking Competition. All three of the students that represented Grade 6, York House School in 2016 were coached by Anna. The School placed first and second, and brought home the cup.
Anna manages a multi award winning Destination Imagination team. Destination Imagination (DI) is an international Program that teaches students the Creative Process from Imagination to Innovation. DI is a powerful tool for cultivating the 4 C’s and equipping students with a STEAM educational approach to learning (that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking). The winning teams from all participating countries, gather in Tennessee for a Global Tournament. 17,000 people attend, over 7000 teams compete from around 20 countries. It is an amazing opportunity for students to flex their public speaking, design and performance skills. Anna’s team won third and first place respectively in two Global tournaments. They were the first from BC to win first place and several prestigious Renaissance awards for excellence in performance and design. Anna has been asked by BCDI to coach at, and help run a DI workshop day to educate and inspire other BCDI teams and managers. Anna has been asked to coach other team managers about building team spirit, training, public speaking and preparing for tournaments.
The opportunity of sharing what Anna has learned from her hands on experience in coaching highly successful, multi award winning individual students and teams in drama, and public speaking has formed Anna’s passionate desire to found Lyrebird.
